We have the print version of Black God's Kiss. Haven't read it, though. I got it because we love the filk song Jirel of Joiry by Mercedes Lackey. It's very cool.
Cool story, cool character, cool recommendation! As for realistic heroines that aren't just a guy with the edges filed sharper, I just read The Last Shield https://g.co/kgs/hgCd1rt and it has one of the best realistic heroines I've read.
I discovered her around the time I decided to start writing speculative fiction professionally, and she is one of the great old pulpers I keep looking to for inspiration.
C.L. Moore's stories of Jirel are still some of my favorite heroic fantasy stories. She had a fine ability at combining horror with the more heroic elements in her fiction.

This is the first of her stories that I read, back in the day.
C.L. Moore is God(dess).
