I think it was Chesterton who said, paraphrasically (and perhaps allegedly), it is the exception that proves the norm.

One wouldn't care about the exception if there was not a standard, norm, or rule for it to be the exception *of*
Swapping them out is dangerous. But that gets into the rectification of names.
